Summer of '79
(with apologies to Bryan Adams)
I bought my first DMG
Got it at the five and dime
Read it till my eyeballs bled
Was the summer of 79
Me and some guys at school
Had a group and we played real hard
Jimmy quit, Jodie got married
Should've known we'd only play so long
Oh, when I look back now
That summer seemed to last forever
Oh, and when we rolled those dice
Yeah, I'd always kill that bugbear
Those were the best days of my life
Back in the summer of 79
Ain't no use in complaining
When you roll a 1 or 2
Spent my evenings down in the basement
Swinging my sword +2
Rolling on your mama's porch
We thought campaigns would last forever
Oh, but when my Fighter died
I knew that it was now or never
Those were the best days of my life
Back in the summer of 79, oh, yeah
Yeah, we were killing orcs, we were young and reckless
Dice, Doritos, and Dew
I guess nothing could last forever, forever, no!
And now the time's are changing
Look at everything that's come and gone
Sometimes I still read that old PHB
Think about where the campaign went wrong
Rolling on your mama's porch
We thought campaigns would last forever
Oh, but when my Fighter died
I knew that it was now or never
Those were the best days of my life
Back in the summer of 79, oh, yeah
